Microneedling is possibly the most ingenious procedure, utlizing the natural healing cascade without added chemicals or burning laser to improve acne scars, aging skin and overal skin rejuvenation of you! Dr. Baron performs microneedling treatments at her medical and surgical clinic in San Jose, California. She combines microneedling with the healing power of platelet-rich plasma (either PRP injections and/or topical application during the procedure) to revitalize and tighten your skin, eliminating lines and wrinkles. Call our team to find out how microneedling with PRP can work for you.
Microneedling is very simple, safe, and effective, using careful "micro-injuries" to stimulate the natural production of new collagen of the face, neck, chest, hands and any other area of the body without risk of harm. It can treat a very wide range of skin issues, including acne scarring, acne, post-traumatic/burn scar, hair loss, skin rejuvenation, excessive sweating, stretch marks, and many more. In the last 10 years, new innovations have been made to the initial "roller" instrument and the treatment can be combined with the use of Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) for an incredible boost in collagen production. It is a safe technique for all skin colors and types, which makes it very special in the treatment of scars and aged skin.
While one treatment of microneedling with PRP produces significant changes in your skin, Dr. Baron may perform a series of treatments depending on the amount of skin damage that is present and your ultimate desired outcome. If you decide to pursue multiple treatements, she recommends spacing them apart at least 5 weeks. For severe acne scarring, three treatments are usually the most successful. For skin aging and lines, microneedling with PRP performed 1 - 2 times, then every 6 - 12 months is a very effective regimen for skin health.

Microneedling Q & A
What is microneedling?
First developed for the treatment of acne scars and pigmentation by a German dermatologist in 1905, microneedling has evolved into an incredible universal skin repair treatment. In 1995 in Philadelphia, Dr. Des Fernandes further fine-tuned this technique that is now known as the safest and most effective way to bring life to our aging or damaged skin.

How is PRP used in microneedling?
PRP enhances the results of a microneedling treatment with the delivery of concentrated growth factors present in your own body. Dr. Baron performs a simple blood draw at the start of your treatment and then, through a 10 - 15 minute extraction process of the platelet-rich portion of your plasma, she then injects and/or applies the healing plasma directly to your treatment area. This promotes the production of healthy new collagen and stimulates the replacement of any damaged tissue.

When should I consider microneedling with PRP?
Because microneedling is safe for all skin types and successfully improves a large diversity of skin damage, many people are ideal candidates for this procedure. The healing "down time" for this treatment is typically 1 - 2 days of redness and mild bruising. Basic after-care instructions include keeping the skin coated in a barrier ointment and out of the direct sun. If you have additional questions but would like to get started right away, she will be happy to do an evaluation and proceed with a customized treatment at the same visit and waive the consultation fee.
